Project Bondi Beach Apartments

Project Type Multi Residential

This innovative project showcases a thoughtful blend of modern design and functionality, featuring 10 contemporary apartments, including one adaptable unit designed to accommodate diverse living needs. These residential spaces are situated above a ground-level commercial tenancy, optimizing the use of a compact, double-fronted site.

The design prioritizes natural light, with each apartment strategically capturing the Northerly aspect, creating bright, airy interiors that enhance the living experience. This focus on light not only improves the aesthetic appeal of the apartments but also contributes to energy efficiency, making them more sustainable.

Navigating the project presented several challenges, particularly as construction began in January 2020, coinciding with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions and safety protocols during this time complicated logistics and project timelines. However, Cumberland’s proactive approach and close coordination with Waverley Council ensured that construction processes remained smooth and public accessibility was maintained.

Another significant hurdle was the connection to mains power, which involved routing electricity from an Ausgrid power station located 200 meters down the road. Additionally, the project included a two-level basement car park, with the lower level constructed below the water table. To address tight access constraints, the basement is equipped with a car lift, fire stairs, and an internal residential lift, facilitating safe and efficient movement for residents and visitors alike.

Despite these challenges, Cumberland delivered a stunning outcome that not only meets the needs of residents and commercial tenants but also enhances the overall Bondi streetscape.

This transformation stands as a testament to Cumberland’s commitment to quality and innovation in urban redevelopment, proving that even the most complex projects can yield remarkable results.
